ABOUT

Kirsty Dixon's work aims to make the mundane ethereal and to capture and create a sense of physicality for the intangible and transient.

The works utilise the transformative effects of light, shadow and darkness, exploring the way these elements can affect our perception of locations, objects and emotions.

Naturally occurring light effects are used as the basis of the works, either incorporating them directly into site-specific pieces or by capturing them as footage to be reinterpreted and recreated as artworks. Light is filtered and reflected, distorting everyday imagery, history and experiences into recognisable but altered sequences, the pace and rhythm of the light becoming key to the works.

The control and creation of spaces and environments in which works are viewed transforms the translucent light into three-dimensional sculptures, enabling heightened association, engagement and participation.
